TREES OF INTEREST

We started to call this section ”Special Trees” but realized that all trees are special so we thought the selected title fit better-as we hope you will after reading on. Trees give so much in so many ways to insure the well-being of all life that they are all “special” in some way, for some reason, to someone or something.

We have several “special” trees that might be of interest for one reason or the other. You might be able to see them during your visit with us. They all are appropriately named and are protected by split-rail fencing. Some are interesting for historic reasons, others for personal. Information regarding historic trees can be found at each tree.

Our Arlington Tulip Poplar comes from seed gathered at Arlington National Cemetery, some of the most hallowed ground in our country. Our tree is found by the Barnyard Buddies area . Signage not only tells of the tree but of the Cemetery itself.

Presently we have two trees from Civil War (or as we Southerners know it to be, “The War of Northern Aggression) battlefields.

From Gettysburg, we have a beautiful oak whose parent tree stands at Seminary Ridge. And from Manassas, a Mimosas tree offers beautiful flowers in the spring and graceful foliage in the summer.

Honoring those who have gone “above and beyond”, we have another oak from the Medal of Honor Grove in Pennsylvania.

Things that the parents of these trees have witnessed are beyond description.

“Ted’s Tree” is a stately oak with special meaning to us, the sight of which always warms our heart and touches our soul. It is strong and giving, just like its namesake. Everyone should have one of these in their life.

We plan to add to these trees, hoping that you will stop and think about them, and how it would be a great idea to save those special trees of interest.
