A Sad Ending

WE wish that our story regarding our goats could continue in a way that would convey the joy our goats had brought to us, and others, over the years but we can not.

On August 28, while out of town visiting parents who had undergone serious surgery, we received a call notifying us that our goats had been savagely attacked by a pack of dogs, leaving two dead and three horribly mauled. Holly the donkey put up a brave fight in an effort to protect her friends but was unsuccessful.

Despite the best efforts of friends and vets, one other goat died while receiving aid and we were forced to put another down two days later due to numerous puncture wounds to its lungs. Our big buddy Flour, who we helped deliver and bottle raise in our garage and carried to work with us along with his sister, Clover ( who was one of the first killed) died a week later. He was unbelievably mutilated but still we thought he would make it.

We have cried many tears over the loss of these innocent lives.  They are missed daily, especially byPhoto of the Goats Holly, who is doing fine despite puncture wounds to both back legs, one front leg, throat, and nose. We are angry at the dogs but know that they were doing what dogs in a pack will do.

The real fault is with humans not behaving in a responsible manner. Three things are at fault- those who do not have pets spayed or neutered, those who abandon animals to make it on their own, and those who do not respect the property of others and allow their animals to roam freely. Our pain could have most likely been avoided by the action of others.

If any good comes from the death of these innocent, crazy-fun, friends of ours is we sincerely hope that someone reading this will stop and think and do the correct thing for their pets sake and not think solely of themselves. It is called being responsible.
